Winter Vacation, part 1

January 13, 2011

For the past few years one of our Christmas presents has been a family trip. In 2008 we went on a tour of New England – we went/drove through all the states except Rhode Island. In 2009 we went to Florida – which was awesome. We’re joking that next year we should go somewhere warm (maybe California?!) since this year we were in upstate New York, 20-ish minutes from Lake Placid – home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics!

We stayed in a house with awesome views of Whiteface Mountain.

We cross-country skied through fir-lined lanes,

over rushing streams,

and past frozen lakes.

We saw some great views!

You might need to click on that one to see the mountains better. 🙂

We didn’t see any wildlife though – I saw one or two birds and too many flies! (they would come out in the house when it got warm and then die at night – it was gross, yes, but at least they didn’t come buzzing around my head) We did see evidence of beavers, though! Behind the house was a beaver dam and lots of fallen trees!
